The Audient iD44 MKII is a high-end professional USB audio interface designed as a centerpiece for serious project and hybrid studios. It combines a large input/output configuration, analog flexibility and high-quality converters, while remaining in a compact desktop format. The model is aimed at producers, mixers and recording engineers who work with more sources, external hardware and digital extensions without compromising on sonic parameters.
The interface features four combo XLR/¼" TRS mic/line inputs, equipped with mic preamps based on Audient's console architecture. Each preamp offers up to +60 dB of gain, a switchable -10 dB pad, and a 100 Hz high-pass filter with a 12 dB/octave roll-off. This allows for handling both sensitive condenser microphones and strong line signals and close mic positions without the risk of overload. An EIN value of -126 dBu ensures low noise and high recording detail.
The front panel features two Hi-Z inputs with 1 MΩ impedance, designed for direct connection of electric guitars and basses. They ensure correct signal matching and preservation of the dynamics and frequency balance of the instrument, without the need for external DI devices.
One of the key strengths of the iD44 MKII is its hardware integration via balanced insert points. Two insert send and two insert return connectors are available, allowing external compressors, equalizers or other analog processors to be plugged directly into the signal before A/D conversion. This makes the interface particularly suitable for hybrid studios combining analog and digital workflows.
The Audient iD44 MKII operates at resolutions up to 96 kHz / 24-bit and uses high-quality A/D and D/A converters with a dynamic range of up to 120 dB at input and 126 dB at output. The frequency response of the microphone and line inputs reaches 65 kHz, which provides a wide frequency range and minimal phase distortion. The latency is extremely low – about 0.32 ms at 96 kHz – which allows comfortable operation even with software monitoring.
The digital section has been significantly expanded to include two optical ADAT / S/PDIF inputs and two outputs. At 48 kHz this allows for up to 16 input and 16 output digital channels, making the iD44 MKII suitable for large recording studios, external preamps and digital consoles. The presence of a Word Clock output ensures stable synchronization in complex studio systems.
The output configuration includes four balanced line outputs for monitoring, as well as three headphone outputs – two ¼" TRS and one 3.5 mm, powered by powerful headphone amplifiers. The dynamic range of the headphone outputs reaches 124 dB, which provides precise and powerful monitoring with any headphones. The two multi-segment LED meters provide clear visual control over levels.
Unlike smaller models, the iD44 MKII uses an external power supply, ensuring stable operation in heavy configurations and with multiple connected devices. The interface is compatible with macOS and Windows and is designed as a long-term solution for professional studio work.
