The Calibrite ColorChecker Classic Nano color standard serves to achieve accurate color reproduction when shooting with a digital camera in any lighting conditions or when scanning with a flatbed scanner.
Using Calibrite ColorChecker Classic Nano and Adobe's free DNG Camera Editor tool, you can manually create a digital camera ICC profile.
Calibrite ColorChecker Classic Nano contains a carefully selected set of 12 natural colors found in everyday life (tree leaves, flowers, human skin), 6 precisely formulated primary color squares (R, G, B, C, M and Y) and 6 squares with smooth grayscale. The surface of the standard reflects light in the same way as normal objects in nature.
The color values of the 24 elements of the Calibrite ColorChecker Classic have been standardized and unchanged since 1976 when the product was introduced as the GretagMacbeth ColorChecker.
During the processing of your images from a digital camera or scanner, you can make any necessary color corrections so that the captured copy of the color standard achieves the same color values as the original. This process is technically accurate and independent of the precision of the working monitor, since you are working on digital color values, not visually. In this way, you can reproduce the colors of the captured object as accurately as possible.
Because of its popularity, Calibrite ColorChecker Classic is also successfully used for color correction in film production.
