The Calibrite ColorChecker Classic color standard (X-Rite ColorChecker Classic) is used to achieve accurate color reproduction when shooting with a digital camera in all lighting conditions or when scanning with a desktop (flat) scanner.
Calibrite ColorChecker Classic contains a carefully selected set of 12 natural colors that are found in everyday life (leaves of trees, flowers, human skin), 6 precisely formulated squares with basic colors (R, G, B, C, M and Y) and 6 carriage with smooth grayscale. The surface of the standard reflects light in the same way as normal objects in nature.
The color values of the 24 elements of the Calibrite ColorChecker Classic have been standardized and unchanged since 1976, when the product was introduced as GretagMacbeth ColorChecker.
During the processing of your images from a digital camera or scanner, you can make any necessary color adjustments so that the captured copy of the color reference achieves the same color values as the original. This process is technically accurate and independent of the precision of the work monitor, as you work on digital color values, not visually. In this way, you can reproduce the colors of the subject as accurately as possible.
Due to its popularity, Calibrite ColorChecker Classic is also successfully used for color correction in film production.
