The Nikon Z9 is the brand's first mirrorless flagship, which combines exceptional speed, excellent photo and video quality, a wide variety of connectivity options and a durable body with built-in grip.
With an all-new 45.7MP power sensor developed by Nikon, a new EXPEED 7 processor, exceptional autofocus performance, 20 fps continuous shooting and 8K video recording, the Nikon Z9 is ready to meet the most demanding requirements of professionals.
Multi-layer sensor and EXPEED 7 processor
The new full-frame glass sensor with 45.7 megapixels and back illumination is combined with a new EXPEED 7 processor, which provides high reading speeds and practically complete elimination of the "jelly" effect, extremely clean and detailed images with excellent color rendering and reduced noise at high sensitivity.
The new processor is approximately 10 times faster than that of the Nikon Z7 II and enables lightning-fast focusing and continuous shooting (20 fps RAW, 30 fps JPEG, 120 fps 11MP), a large buffer (over 1000 RAW frame) and smooth video (up to 8K30p and 4K120p).
Electronic prison
The multi-layered sensor and super-fast processor eliminate the "jelly" effect and allow Nikon to completely remove the mechanical shutter from the Z9, and the combination allows a maximum shutter speed of 1/32000 sec.
The removal of the mechanical shutter also ensures completely silent operation with the Nikon Z9.
PDAF with Deep Learning
The Nikon Z9's autofocus system uses 493 phase-detection points covering the entire sensor area with ten different AF-area selection modes and a 405-point automatic area. In Starlight mode, the autofocus works down to -8.5 EV, making it easy to shoot stage events, astrophotography, night shots and generally work in low light conditions.
The new algorithm and Deep Learning technology enable the recognition and excellent tracking of nine different types of objects such as people, animals, bicycles, airplanes. Eye focus has been improved.
In combination with Subject Detection, the 3D Tracking mode, already known from the DSLR models of the brand, guarantees precise tracking of objects that move parallel to the camera or perpendicularly.
The Nikon Z9 offers 20 custom focus area selections, 12 of which are supported during video recording.
8K and 4K video
The Nikon Z9 records 8K30p and 4K120/60/30p video from the full width of the sensor. The camera can record continuous 8K video for more than two hours, and firmware version 2.0 will allow shooting 8K video at 60 fps and N-RAW recording, which is smaller in size than other RAW formats. The frame rate for 4K video reaches up to 120 fps.
The model supports autofocus during video recording with eye detection and internal 10-bit 4:2:2 recording in ProRes 422 HQ or H.265.
Proven ergonomics
The Nikon Z9 inherits the renowned ergonomics of professional Nikon cameras, with the arrangement of backlit buttons the result of consultation with professional photographers.
The case is extremely strong and has a built-in vertical grip. It is equipped with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with 4-axis tilt, a top control display, a new joystick, two CFexpress Type B / XQD memory card slots and is protected from dust and moisture.
The sensor is protected by an additional barrier when changing lenses, and the built-in stabilization system locks to prevent damage in the event of sudden camera shakes.
Seamless connection
The Nikon Z9 camera was developed with professionals in mind, and as such offers multiple options for connecting to other devices and networks. There is an HDMI port for video to a recorder or monitor, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C for tethering, data transfer and battery charging, a 1000BASE-T Ethernet port, a 10-pin connector and a PC sync port.
The Nikon Z9 can be controlled wirelessly via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (2.4, 5 GHz) as well as transfer files. GNSS provides geotagging and location recording during shooting.
