The camcorder also uses technologies familiar from the Osmo Action 5 Pro, such as object tracking at 2.7K and FHD, SuperNight mode for improved video in low light, 10-bit D-Log M for more options in post-production, and more.
Larger sensor
The Osmo Action 6's new square sensor provides a significantly larger area than standard 1/1.1" sensors and captures more light. This ensures true 4:3 shooting with excellent detail, and the 4K Custom mode allows for easy reframing for social media.
Combined with 10-bit D-Log M, the new sensor delivers up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range.
Variable aperture
For the first time, DJI Action cameras feature a variable f/2 or f/4 lens aperture for better performance in different lighting conditions and greater creative freedom. This allows for control over depth of field and exposure:
open aperture for more light and shallower depth of field;
closed for greater sharpness in dynamic scenes and better quality on bright sunny days
This is one of the most significant differences compared to older models that relied on a fixed lens aperture. The minimum focusing distance is now just 20cm for super impressive close-ups.
Practicality and more freedom when shooting
The built-in 50GB memory provides comfort when shooting long clips, and microSD card support provides additional space. The battery is large in capacity and is backward compatible, which is a huge plus for those switching to the DJI Osmo Action 6 from the Osmo Action 5 Pro or 4.
