Description
The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition is a special version of the Leica Q3 43 full-frame compact camera, created in collaboration with Formula 1. The model combines a 60.3-megapixel effective sensor with a fixed Leica APO-Summicron 43mm f/2 ASPH. lens and distinctive design elements inspired by motorsport. The 43 mm focal length provides a natural perspective suitable for documentary photography, portraits, street scenes and everyday reporting. The full-frame sensor enables detailed images, and Triple Resolution technology allows for recording DNG and JPEG files with different resolutions according to the requirements of the specific task.
The special edition features a black Microvelour finish, real carbon elements and red accents. Carbon components are used in the grip, thumb rest and soft release shutter button. The included grip supports wireless charging, and the exclusive design is completed by the Formula 1 logo on the top plate and lens cap. The camera retains the main technical features of the standard Q3 43, including sensitivity up to ISO 100,000, an electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 5.76 million dots and a tri-point touchscreen with a resolution of approximately 1.84 million dots. USB-C, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are available for connectivity with other devices.
The Leica 19207 Q3 43 is equipped with a 60-megapixel full-frame sensor, a hybrid autofocus system, and shoots up to 8K video.
The back-illuminated sensor inherited from Leica interchangeable lens cameras is combined with the Maestro IV processor and offers lower noise levels and faster information readout and can operate in 4 different crop modes to simulate different lens focal lengths - 1.25x crop for 35mm, 1.8x for 50mm, 2.7x for 75mm and 3.2x for 90mm. In addition, the Leica Q3 43 supports the Triple Resolution technology known from the Leica M11, in which resolutions of 60, 36 and 18 megapixels can be selected from the entire sensor area.
The Leica Q3 features a fixed stabilized APO-Summicron 43mm f/2 ASPH. lens with a smaller field of view than the first version Summilux 28mm f/1.7, making it more suitable for portrait photography and everyday shooting in different lighting conditions and scenes. The Leica Q3 43 thus becomes the first camera in the series to use such a focal length, at which the angular range approaches that of the human eye for the most realistic perspective without distortions. A macro mode is also available for focusing from just 26.5 cm. This new apochromatic lens provides extremely precise color reproduction without aberrations. The optical scheme includes aspherical elements, which allow for distortion-free images with excellent sharpness and contrast.
The hybrid autofocus system uses contrast and phase detection points and DFD (depth from defocus) for faster and more precise focusing, recognition and tracking of objects in the frame - eyes, faces, animals, etc.
The Leica Q3 43 records 4:2:0 10-bit 8K video at up to 30 frames per second in-camera and 8-bit when recording externally via micro-HDMI, as well as 4K 4:2:2 10-bit video at up to 60 frames per second and FHD at up to 120 frames per second. At all resolutions, the camera supports the classic cinematic frame rate of 24 frames per second. ProRes 422 HQ FHD 60p internal recording is also available.
The camera's viewfinder has 5.76 million dots, 120 fps refresh rate and 0.79x magnification. The Leica Q3 43 also inherits the movable display of the previous version - a 3-inch touchscreen with 1.84 million dots.
The compact magnesium body of the camera is protected against dust and moisture and features micro-HDMI and USB-C ports, the latter allowing file transfer, camera control, power supply and battery charging. The new version of the Leica FOTOS app enables wireless file transfer at speeds of up to 35MB/s. With the optional Leica HG-DC1 Wireless Charging Handgrip, the Leica Q3 43 can be charged wirelessly with Qi-compatible charging pads such as the Leica Drop XL Wireless Charger. Unlike the previous version, the front of the Leica Q3 43 is covered in high-quality gray textured artificial leather, which contrasts nicely with the black color of the body.
