The Audio-Technica ATH-R50x are professional open-back studio headphones designed for precise monitoring, mixing, and detailed sound analysis. The open-back design positions them as a tool for working in control environments where natural soundstage and spatial reproduction are key.
The model uses 45 mm dynamic drivers that provide a wide frequency range from 5 Hz to 40 kHz. This allows for the reproduction of both deep low frequencies and fine high details required when working with high-resolution audio. The sound field is stereo, with an emphasis on the natural width and transparency of the sound with a characteristic feature of open designs.
The 50 ohm impedance makes them suitable for use with professional audio interfaces, studio controllers and high-quality DACs. The 93 dB/mW sensitivity and 1600 mW maximum input power ensure stable, distortion-free operation at controlled gain levels.
The open design allows for more natural airflow through the ear cups, which creates a more realistic soundstage. It is important to note that this type of construction does not isolate external noise and is not suitable for recording indoors with a microphone, as there is sound leakage outside. The model does not have active noise cancellation (ANC).
The ATH-R50x feature an over-ear (circumaural) design that completely surrounds the ears and provides comfort during extended sessions. The design is non-folding and the cups do not rotate, emphasizing the focus on stability and a constant working position, rather than mobility.
The headphones do not have a built-in microphone or control buttons, making them entirely oriented towards professional audio applications. Connection is via a 3.5 mm TRS connector with gold plating, with a 6.3 mm adapter for studio equipment included in the kit. The cables are interchangeable and straight, with lengths of 1.2 m and 3 m, allowing flexibility in different working environments.
