The Universal Audio Volt 176 audio interface is a compact 1-in, 2-out USB audio interface that combines professional recording quality with a built-in analog compressor inspired by Universal Audio's classic studio 1176 circuits. This makes it an ideal choice for vocals, guitar, bass, podcasting, and solo instrument recording, where dynamic control at the input stage is key.
The interface features one combined XLR/¼" TRS input, compatible with microphone, line and Hi-Z signals. This allows direct connection of condenser or dynamic microphones (with switchable 48V phantom power), as well as electric guitars and basses without the need for an external DI box. Level control is carried out via a precise central potentiometer, and a three-stage LED meter visualizes the input signal for quick control of levels.
A key feature of the Volt 176 is the built-in analog compressor with preset modes optimized for vocals, guitar, and fast transient control. This allows for a fuller, fuller sound while recording, without the need for additional software processing.
The interface supports resolutions up to 192 kHz / 24-bit, which provides high detail, wide dynamic range and low noise. The direct monitoring function without latency allows you to hear the input signal in real time, which is especially important for vocal performances and instrumental recording.
For monitoring, two balanced ¼" TRS outputs for studio monitors and a separate ¼" headphone output are available on the front panel. The Volt 176 also offers MIDI input and output (DIN 5-pin), allowing integration with synthesizers, MIDI keyboards, and external hardware devices.
Connectivity is via USB-C (USB 2.0 protocol), and power can be supplied either via USB or via an external 5V adapter (not included). The device is compatible with macOS, Windows and iOS (including Apple Silicon systems), making it a universal solution for both studio and mobile configurations.
