Description
The compact Leica Q3 Monochrom fixed-lens camera is a version of the model dedicated entirely to classic black and white photography. The 60-megapixel back-illuminated monochrome sensor is free of color and low-pass filters, allowing it to capture twice as much light and deliver extremely detailed and high-quality images with greater sharpness, clarity and depth with a wider dynamic range and reduced noise levels.
This sensor also provides significantly higher light sensitivity - up to ISO 200,000 - but also determines the other big difference between the Q3 Monochrom and the original model - the use of only contrast detection for autofocus.
In addition, the new model offers longer exposure capability than the Leica Q3.
The Q3 Monochrom body is designed entirely in black, lacking even the legendary red dot.
The Leica Q3 Monochrom is now part of Adobe’s Content Authenticity Initiative, where the technology is integrated under the name Leica Content Credentials. The camera records protected metadata at the time of capture, allowing it to be verified and verified as authentic later. This approach serves to clearly distinguish between real photographs and images generated or manipulated by computer.
This practically ends the main differences between the Q3 Monochrom and the standard version of the model. The new camera inherits all other features and capabilities of the Leica Q3, such as:

- Allows you to choose to crop at 60, 36 or 18 megapixels as needed — a flexible solution for working with different file sizes.
- Summilux 28 mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens - fixed, fast lens with optical stabilization.
- Macro mode - minimum focusing distance of only 17 cm, allowing for close, detailed shots.
- Up to 8K video - capture high-quality 8K (and 4K) video — all in black and white, with support for multiple codecs and high-quality audio.
- OLED viewfinder and tilting display - A clear 5.76-megapixel OLED viewfinder and a 3″ touchscreen display that tilts for more freedom when composing.
- Connectivity - built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB-C and micro-HDMI ports, compatible with the Leica FOTOS app for fast transfer and processing.
- Robust construction and protection - magnesium metal body, leather lining and IP52 protection level against dust and splashes, etc.
The Leica Q3 Monochrom sensor can operate in 4 different crop modes to simulate different lens focal lengths - 1.25x crop for 35mm, 1.8x for 50mm, 2.7x for 75mm and 3.2x for 90mm. In addition, the Leica Q3 supports the Triple Resolution technology known from the Leica M11, where resolutions of 60, 36 and 18 megapixels can be selected from the entire sensor area.
The Leica Q3 Monochrom features a fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7 lens, developed specifically for the Leica Q series, with a wide angle range and a large maximum aperture for working in a variety of lighting conditions and scenes. A macro mode is available for shooting from as close as 17 cm, as well as optical stabilization.
The camera records 4:2:0 10-bit 8K video at up to 30 frames per second in-camera and 8-bit when recording externally via micro-HDMI, as well as 4K 4:2:2 10-bit video at up to 60 frames per second and FHD at up to 120 frames per second. At all resolutions, the camera supports the classic cinematic frame rate of 24 frames per second. ProRes 422 HQ FHD 60p internal recording is also available.
The camera is equipped with an updated viewfinder and display. The viewfinder has 5.76 million dots, refresh rate of 120 fps and 0.79x magnification. The Leica Q3 is the first camera in the series with a movable display - a 3-inch touchscreen with 1.84 million dots.
The compact magnesium body of the Leica Q3 Monochrom is protected against dust and moisture and features micro-HDMI and USB-C ports, the latter allowing file transfer, camera control, power supply and battery charging. The new version of the Leica FOTOS app enables wireless file transfer at speeds of up to 35MB/s. With the optional Leica HG-DC1 Wireless Charging Handgrip, the Leica Q3 can be charged wirelessly with Qi-compatible charging pads such as the Leica Drop XL Wireless Charger.
