Description
The second generation Sigma 35mm F/1.2 DG II Art features improved optics and an optimized design, retaining the remarkable f/1.2 maximum aperture in a lighter and more compact version than its predecessor. The lens is designed for both stills and video, with attention to minimizing focus breathing and high resolution even at wide apertures.
Key improvements to the Sigma 35 mm F/1.2 DG II Art:
Smaller and lighter design compared to the previous generation
About 30% lighter and 20% shorter, allowing for everyday use and mobility with less strain when shooting.
Improved optical structure
The lens' optical design is composed of 17 elements in 13 groups, including one SLD (Special Low Dispersion) element and four aspherical elements, ensuring high sharpness across the frame and exceptional control over aberrations.
Optimized for video
Minimal focus breathing, which is extremely important when shooting video, also the aperture control ring has a (click/de-click) and a ring lock option.
The Sigma 35mm F/1.2 DG II Art has significant improvements in terms of optics, weight and size. With 17 elements in 13 groups, including one SLD (Special Low Dispersion) element and four aspherical elements, it ensures high sharpness from the center to the edges of the frame. These optical elements help reduce chromatic aberrations and coma (especially in points of light in dark scenes), which is key for photographers and videographers.
The maximum aperture of f/1.2 offers great creative freedom, allowing for low-light shooting, strong control over depth of field, and soft, artistic bokeh. The lens has 11 rounded diaphragm blades that improve bokeh quality and smooth transitions. The minimum focusing distance is 28 cm at maximum magnification (0.19×) and is suitable for close-ups, portraits, and creative compositions.
The Sigma 35mm F/1.2 DG II Art has a significantly more compact body measuring 114 x 81mm and weighing 755g, making it more convenient to carry and use, especially in mobile environments and video production. The lens has a 72mm filter thread, which provides extremely affordable options for effect, neutral density and safety filters.
The lens is dust and splash resistant, and the front element is coated to repel water and grease, making it easy to maintain in the field. It is also equipped with an aperture ring that can be set to click or de-click, and there is also a lock option to prevent accidental aperture changes while shooting. The Sigma 35 mm F/1.2 DG II Art is equipped with an AFL/Custom button that can be customized.
Thanks to improvements in the optical design, the focusing circuit includes elements that move independently, which reduces focus breathing and improves images when shooting video. The autofocus system uses high-response linear actuators (HLA) for fast, quiet and precise focusing.
