The Panasonic Lumix S1 II (DC-S1M2) mirrorless camera is the second generation of the brand's professional full-frame model, equipped with a new, partially multi-layered sensor, the latest generation processor and other significant improvements for both photo and video shooting, including 6K video, advanced autofocus, high-speed burst and many other advantages.
Sensor and processor
The Panasonic S1 II features an all-new 24.1-megapixel partially multi-layered full-frame CMOS sensor with high-speed readout, combined with the new L² processor (a joint development between Panasonic and Leica). This enables significantly improved image processing, faster response and more efficient operation at high ISO. Dual Native ISO technology ensures clear images even in low light.
Video capabilities at a level
The Lumix S1 II offers 6K Open Gate (3:2) video 30p and 4K 120p with full sensor readout and no limit on shooting time. The camera supports V-Log/V-Gamut profiles with a dynamic range of over 14 stops, making it fully compatible with professional cinema and television color workflows. RAW video output via HDMI is available for external recorders, further expanding post-production capabilities.
Additional video features include a built-in waveform monitor, vectorscope, gamma display assistant, timecode, real-time LUT visualization, the ability to record to a CFexpress Type B card or SD UHS-II, and more.
Autofocus and stabilization
The Panasonic Lumix S1II’s autofocus system has been significantly improved, now using PDAF combined with real-time AI object recognition – including people, eyes, faces, animals and vehicles. This makes the camera particularly reliable for fast-moving scenes, reportage and documentary work.
The 5-axis image stabilization (IBIS) is effective up to 8 stops in the center of the frame and up to 7 stops when using the Dual IS 2 system with suitable lenses, making handheld shooting possible even in low light.
Design and ergonomics
The body is made of magnesium alloy and is protected against dust, moisture and freezing, making it durable in harsh field conditions. The camera offers two card slots – one CFexpress Type B and one SD (UHS-II), allowing flexible data management, including simultaneous or backup recording.
The electronic viewfinder has 5.76 million dots, which ensures extremely precise framing and focusing, and the large, freely positionable LCD display makes it easy to work at any shooting angle.
