The Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II lens is a new, lightweight version of the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM with improved sharpness and a reduced minimum focus distance.
The Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II is 133g lighter than its predecessor (it weighs 547g) and is 10mm (112mm) shorter. These parameters rank it as the world's most compact and lightweight wide-angle full-frame vario 16-35mm to date.
The new construction (so-called "floating optical construction") of the lens reduces the shift of the center of gravity and "breathing" during zooming and focusing, which, together with the lighter and more compact body, makes it particularly suitable for video shooting and work with gimbals. The aperture can be controlled smoothly, which also makes it easier to shoot video.
The new model has a minimum focus distance of 22 cm (magnification 0.32x) - 6 cm less than the first version, as well as improved image sharpness.
The Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II is equipped with focus motors and an aperture mechanism that allow shooting at up to 30 frames per second with compatible cameras.
