Technology ported by NTG5
VideoMic NTG's body is distinguished by its acoustic apertures rather than the linear slots traditionally used in shotgun microphones. The aperture technology has been ported from Rode's NTG5 to provide crystalline and natural, unmolested sound.
VideoMic NTG uses a supercardioid polar model to focus on the sound in front of it while minimizing back and side sounds. Its low-noise electronics and sensitive capacitor element deliver more detailed audio than standard built-in microphones for cameras and portable recorders. Being even more sensitive than the Videomic Pro + model, it requires less amplification to achieve an equivalent signal level.
Wide device compatibility
Just connect VideoMic NTG to your camera, portable recorder or mobile device with the included TRRS cable. VideoMic NTG's automatic 3.5mm TRRS output automatically switches between TRS and TRRS if needed, so you won't need additional adapters. The 3.5mm jack is connected in a dual mono configuration, ensuring that the microphone signal is sent identically to both input channels of your recorder.
Full USB functionality
Connect VideoMic NTG to your PC, smartphone or tablet via USB to use as a digital USB microphone for direct recording to your favorite software. The built-in analog-to-digital converter operates at 24-bit / 48 kHz to provide uncompressed audio quality at full resolution.
Convenient headphone monitoring
When using VideoMic NTG as a USB microphone, plug the headset into its 3.5mm output for better control. Adjust the volume of the headset with the power button at the bottom of the microphone.
-20 dB Pad and continuous variable gain
To allow seamless optimization of the recording levels of each device, Videomic NTG maintains continuous variable gain control and warning light indication.
Bass Roll-Off and Treble Boost
The high pass filter can be set to 75 Hz or 150 Hz to divert low frequency noise from common sources such as air conditioners and traffic. Knowing that comprehensibility is crucial, Rode equips VideoMic NTG with a selectable high frequency amplifier that enhances detail and clarity at high ranges.
Selectable safety channel
When the source levels become unexpectedly higher, you run the risk of overloading the recording. By pressing the dedicated security channel button, you can set the microphone's right channel to output 20 dB lower than the left channel. This allows you to simultaneously record the security channel and the main signal to your camera.
Rechargeable battery for up to 30 hours
The lithium-ion battery offers up to 30 hours of work time and charges via USB Type-C in about two hours. VideoMic NTG can be loaded while using it.
Manual or automatic on / off
When connected to the microphone input of a compatible camera, VideoMic NTG automatically switches on or off depending on the availability or lack of power. The microphone is turned off when the power is lost or the camera is turned off.
VideoMic NTG includes a windshield to minimize the unwanted noise of draft breezes, fans and air conditioners. To maximize wind noise in the outside, consider a fluffy windshield like the optional Rode WS-11.
