Description
The OM System (Olympus) Digital Pen is a mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds mount and a 20.4-megapixel Four Thirds MOS sensor measuring 17.4 × 13 mm. The sensor offers sufficient resolution for detailed photographs and provides flexibility in various shooting genres. The camera supports JPEG and RAW files with 12-bit depth, with an aspect ratio of 4:3. ISO sensitivity has a base value of 100, and in manual mode the native range is 200–25,600, with an expansion from 64 to 25,600. In automatic mode, the ISO range is 64–6400, which allows adaptation to different lighting conditions.

5-axis stabilization and precise exposure
The built-in Sensor-Shift stabilization works on 5 axes and compensates for camera movements when shooting handheld. This is useful when working with slower shutter speeds, as well as when recording video. The camera has a mechanical focal-plane shutter and an electronic rolling shutter, with the mechanical shutter operating from 1/4000 to 60 seconds, and the electronic one from 1/3200 to 60 seconds. Aperture Priority, Auto, Manual, Program and Shutter Priority modes are available, as well as exposure compensation from -5 to +5 EV.
Fast continuous shooting and Full-Frame equivalent
The OM Digital Pen can shoot up to 30 frames per second at maximum resolution, with RAW bursts of up to 29 frames and JPEG bursts of up to 154 frames. The crop factor of the system is 2x compared to 35mm format, with an additional crop factor possible in certain video modes. The camera also supports interval shooting, which allows for the creation of a series of images for subsequent combination or production of timelapse content.
4K video and audio capabilities
The camera supports internal video recording in H.264/MOV/MPEG-4 AVC format with a maximum resolution of 4096 × 2160 at 24 fps. At 3840 × 2160, recording is available at 24, 25 and 30 fps, and Full HD 1920 × 1080 is supported at 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps. Depending on the selected mode, the bitrate reaches up to 240 Mb/s in DCI 4K and up to 205 Mb/s in some Full HD modes. The camera supports fast- and slow-motion recording and there is no limit to the length of the video recording. For audio, a stereo built-in microphone is available, as well as a 3.5 mm TRS stereo input for an external microphone. Audio can be recorded with 16-bit/48 kHz PCM or 24-bit/96 kHz PCM.
121-point autofocus and electronic viewfinder
The autofocus system combines contrast and phase detection and has 121 points, all of which are cross-type. Continuous-Servo AF, Single-Servo AF, Manual Focus and Subject Tracking with automatic subject tracking are supported. Autofocus sensitivity is from -3.5 to +20 EV. For framing, the camera has an electronic OLED viewfinder with a resolution of 2.36 million dots, 100% coverage, approximately 1.1x magnification and diopter adjustment from -4 to +2.
3-inch movable touch display
The rear display is a 3-inch LCD touchscreen with a movable structure and a resolution of 1.04 million dots. The touch interface makes it easy to select settings and control the camera, and the movable screen provides greater freedom when shooting from non-standard angles. The camera has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2, and the OM Image Share application allows connection to Android and iOS devices. GPS positioning is carried out via a connected smartphone.
Connectivity and practical design
For storage, the camera uses a single slot for SD, SDHC, or SDXC cards with UHS-I support. There is a Micro-HDMI video output, a 3.5 mm input for an external stereo microphone, and a USB-C input/output. There is no built-in memory. The camera uses a rechargeable BLS-7 lithium-ion battery, included in the kit, with an approximate capacity for 410 shots. The body measures 125.8 × 74.5 × 43.3 mm and weighs 393 g with the battery, and also features a 1/4"-20 tripod thread.

The minimum focusing distance is 13 cm at 14 mm and 30 cm at 42 mm. This allows you to get closer to small subjects and create shots with a greater presence of the subject in the image. The maximum magnification is from 0.19x to 0.26x, and the maximum macro reproduction ratio reaches 1:3.85. These characteristics make the lens suitable for details, objects, food and other subjects where closer framing is required.
The diaphragm uses 7 rounded blades, which contribute to a smoother rendering of out-of-focus areas. The combination of zoom range and rounded iris allows for a change in both perspective and image character at different focal lengths. The photographer can use the wider end for more expansive compositions or switch to the 42mm for tighter framing of subjects and details.
