Description
The Universal Audio Apollo Twin X QUAD Gen2 ESS TB3 Mac audio interface is a compact audio interface designed for recording, monitoring and processing high-resolution audio. The system features a Quad-Core DSP architecture that allows audio signal processing using the available DSP power of the interface. This provides the ability to work with real-time signal processing and is suitable for various professional audio workflows. The interface supports a maximum sampling rate of 192 kHz at 24-bit depth, thus providing the necessary resolution for precise recording and playback.
Two microphone inputs and 48V phantom power
Apollo Twin X features two combined XLR-1/4" TRS balanced microphone inputs. They allow for the connection of various microphones and other audio sources, with the available 48V phantom power ensuring compatibility with condenser microphones that require external power. In addition to the microphone inputs, the interface offers a 1/4" TS unbalanced Hi-Z input for direct connection of instruments. This allows the interface to be used for both vocal and instrumental recordings, as well as for various other analog audio sources.
Hi-Z input and analog outputs
The dedicated 1/4" TS Hi-Z input is designed for instruments with high-impedance outputs, such as electric guitars and basses. The interface also features two 1/4" TRS balanced line outputs, two 1/4" TRS balanced monitor outputs, and one 1/4" TRS headphone output. This configuration allows for simultaneous connections for monitoring and audio equipment. The maximum level of the monitor outputs reaches 20.2 dBu, and the frequency response is 20 Hz–20 kHz ±0.05 dB.
High dynamic range and low distortion levels
Apollo Twin X is designed for precise audio signal conversion and reproduction. The dynamic range reaches 122 dB(A) for Hi-Z inputs, 124 dB(A) for line inputs, 128 dB for line outputs and 129 dB(A) for monitor outputs. THD+N for monitor outputs is -120 dB / 0.0001%, while for line outputs it reaches -117 dB. For Hi-Z inputs the value is -111 dB / 0.00014%. These characteristics are aimed at preserving a clean and detailed audio signal during recording, processing and monitoring.
Headphones and precision monitoring
The interface features a separate 1/4" TRS headphone output that provides 68 mW at 300 Ω and 38 mW at 600 Ω. The supported impedance for the headphone output is 300–600 Ω. This allows the use of headphones designed for professional monitoring, as the output characteristics are tailored to work with different impedances. The presence of separate monitor and headphone outputs allows for more flexible organization of the monitoring system.
Digital expansion via ADAT / S/PDIF
For digital connectivity, Apollo Twin X offers a TOSLINK optical input with ADAT / S/PDIF support. This allows the interface to be integrated with additional digital audio equipment and expand the capabilities of the system. The maximum sampling rate is up to 192 kHz at 24-bit depth, and S/PDIF is supported as a synchronization source. The A/D conversion provides a latency of 1.1 ms at 96 kHz.
Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C connectivity
The interface uses a USB-C connector to connect to a host device, using Thunderbolt 3 as the communication protocol. This provides a high-speed connection between the Apollo Twin X and your computer, and is designed for work configurations that require fast transfer speeds and low latency. The interface is compatible with Windows and macOS, and requires a Thunderbolt 3 port on your computer. Mobile devices, MIDI, network connectivity, or wireless communication are not supported.
Compact body and professional integration
Universal Audio Apollo Twin X QUAD Gen2 ESS TB3 Mac features a color display and a single main control knob for adjusting the input level. It operates in temperatures from 0 to 40°C and uses an external AC/DC power adapter with a 12 VDC output. The power supply is compatible with a 100–240 VAC at 50/60 Hz mains, and the power consumption is 19 W. The housing measures 232.98 × 5.87 × 2.51 mm according to the provided specifications and weighs 1.5 kg.
Flexible interface for recording and monitoring
The Universal Audio Apollo Twin X QUAD Gen2 ESS TB3 Mac combines two microphone inputs, a Hi-Z input, analog line and monitor outputs, a headphone output, ADAT/S/PDIF digital input, and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Quad-Core DSP processing, support for up to 192 kHz / 24-bit, and high dynamic range complete the configuration for working with high-resolution audio. With its analog and digital I/O capabilities, the interface can be integrated into a variety of professional studio and recording systems.
