Description
The Audio-Technica ATV-SG1 is a directional microphone designed for videographers and content creators who want to capture clearer, more focused sound directly from their camera. It mounts to DSLR and SLR cameras and uses a large-diaphragm, 14mm diameter condenser capsule. The 100mm long tubular design helps capture sound more directionally, allowing the focus to be on the subject in front of the camera rather than the environment.
The microphone has a frequency response of 60 Hz to 20 kHz, allowing for the capture of a wide range of sound details in interviews, reports and video content. The maximum sound pressure reaches 126 dB at maximum gain and 132 dB at minimum gain, which allows for operation even with louder sound sources. Gain controls allow sensitivity to be adjusted according to the distance to the speaker and the level of ambient sound.
The Audio-Technica ATV-SG1 features a 160 Hz low-pass filter with a 24 dB per octave slope that helps reduce low-frequency noise such as wind noise and vibration. A backup recording function with safety track allows you to record an additional version of the audio at a lower level, which is useful for sudden peaks in sound. The microphone also includes a headphone volume control, making it easy to monitor while recording.
The built-in suspension system reduces the transmission of mechanical vibrations from the camera to the microphone. The design can be rotated in 30° increments, allowing the microphone to be aimed according to the position of the camera and the sound source. Audio-Technica's technologies for reducing electromagnetic interference and radio frequency noise help to record cleanly in environments with various electronic equipment.
The microphone has a built-in rechargeable battery that charges via USB-C and provides up to 24 hours of operation. The analog output is 3.5 mm TRS, and the included 50.8 cm cable allows connection to a compatible input on a camera or other recording device. The kit also includes a Windjammer-type windscreen, which helps when shooting outdoors, as well as the necessary cables and mounting accessories.
