Description
The Focal Utopia Main 112 BE studio monitors are a reference high-end studio monitor system consisting of a stereo pair of passive 3-way monitors with external amplification, designed for mastering, mixing and critical listening in professional environments. Each monitor uses a combination of a 13-inch woofer, a 5-inch midrange driver and a 1.5-inch beryllium inverted dome tweeter, which provides extremely fast response and minimal distortion in the high frequencies.
The system relies on an external amplifier module with three separate amplifiers – 90W RMS (HF, Class-H), 180W RMS (MF, Class-H) and 500W RMS (LF, Class-D), which guarantees precise power distribution and maximum control over each frequency band. This allows reaching sound pressure levels of up to 120 dB without compromising detail or dynamics, even at high monitoring levels.
The frequency response of 28 Hz to 40 kHz (±3 dB) provides full coverage from deep and controlled bass to extremely fine high frequencies. The crossover points are precisely set at 330 Hz and 2.7 kHz, which ensures a smooth transition between the drivers and a natural sound image. Adjustment options include LF and HF shelving adjustments and a high-pass filter, which allow adaptation to different acoustic spaces.
The cabinet is bass-reflex type (ported), made of MDF, which minimizes resonances and contributes to a cleaner and more controlled sound. Connectivity includes a speakON NL4 input for a secure connection to the amplifier and a balanced XLR input with an impedance of 10 kOhm, ensuring a stable signal without noise and interference.
The system is designed for vertical mounting and stationary installation, with each monitor measuring 105 x 79.6 x 46 cm and weighing 76.6 kg, emphasizing its professional nature. The amplifier module is also separate (48.3 x 44.5 x 19.6 cm, 23.4 kg) and operates in the 100–240V range, with a typical consumption of around 500W.
