Description
The LAOWA 15mm T4.8 Zero-D Shift Cine Lens is a professional ultra-wide-angle cine lens with a shift mechanism, designed for full-frame and VistaVision cinema cameras and intended for productions where control over perspective and geometry is crucial. With a focal length of 15mm and a cine aperture of T4.8, the lens allows for the capture of extremely wide spaces while maintaining the natural proportions of the scene.
The optical design is designed for VistaVision coating with a 65.2mm coverage circle, which ensures full compatibility with full-frame sensors and large cinema formats without vignetting. When operating on full frame, the lens offers an extremely wide angle of view, reaching 130.4° horizontally, making it suitable for interiors, architectural scenes, large-scale sets and visual effects where space and perspective are key.
The Zero-D optical concept aims for minimal geometric distortion, allowing straight lines to remain straight even at ultra-wide angles. This greatly simplifies work on set and reduces the need for post-production adjustments, especially for architectural and scenographic shots.
The optical design includes 17 elements in 11 groups, designed for high resolution and stable contrast across the entire frame. The 14-blade diaphragm ensures a smooth and natural transition between focus and defocus, and the aperture can be stopped down to T22 when greater depth of field is required.
The built-in shift mechanism allows optically shifting the image relative to the sensor, without tilting the camera. This is especially important when shooting tall buildings, interiors and large-scale scenes, where maintaining correct verticals and horizontals is critical. Thanks to this function, the operator can correct the composition during shooting, without relying on subsequent cropping or digital corrections.
A minimum focusing distance of 20cm allows close-up work while maintaining the characteristic ultra-wide perspective and adding additional flexibility for creative compositions.
The lens is fully cinema-oriented, with manual focus and manual aperture, no electronic communication and no optical stabilization, which guarantees predictable and repeatable behavior. The focus and aperture rings have a standard 0.8 MOD gear ring, ensuring full compatibility with professional follow focus systems.
The body features both metric and imperial markings, making it easy to use focus pullers in international productions. The mount is interchangeable, with an ARRI PL mount included, ensuring stable integration with cinema cameras and rigs. The 114mm filter thread allows the use of large filters when working outdoors or for light control.
Measuring approximately 119mm in diameter, 93mm in length and weighing approximately 1.15kg, the LAOWA 15mm T4.8 Zero-D Shift Cine offers a good balance between solid cinema construction and practicality when working handheld or on gimbals. The lack of electronics and gimbal stabilization contributes to reliability during intensive use and long shooting days.
