The Laowa 12mm T2.9 Zero-D VV Cine Lens is a professional ultra-wide-angle cine lens designed for full-frame and VistaVision cine cameras and optimized for productions where space, perspective and geometric accuracy are key. With a focal length of 12mm and a cine aperture of T2.9, the lens allows for the capture of extremely wide scenes while preserving natural-looking lines and proportions thanks to the Zero-D optical concept.
The lens covers the VistaVision format with a 43.2mm diameter coating, ensuring full compatibility with full frame sensors without vignetting. When operating in full frame format, the angle of view reaches approximately 122° horizontally, making it an excellent choice for interiors, tight spaces, large-scale sets and dynamic camera movements where standard wide-angle lenses are not sufficient.
The T2.9 aperture, stop-down to T22, provides flexibility for both low-light and deep-depth scenes. The 14-blade diaphragm contributes to smooth and even defocus, which is rare in such a wide-angle lens, allowing for more artistic control over the image.
The optical construction includes 16 elements in 9 groups, designed for high resolution and stable contrast across the entire frame. A minimum focusing distance of just 14 cm enables extreme close-up shooting, creating a strong sense of depth and scale. With a magnification ratio of 0.21x and a macro ratio of approximately 1:4.76, the lens enables creative shots combining an ultra-wide perspective with foreground detail.
Laowa 12mm T2.9 Zero-D VV Cine is a fully mechanical cine lens, without electronic communication and without optical stabilization, which guarantees predictable and repeatable behavior in professional work. The focus ring has a travel of 100°, and the aperture ring has a travel of 67.5°, which provides precise control during manual focus transitions. The gear rims are of the 0.8 MOD standard, fully compatible with professional follow focus systems.
Focus markings are available in both metric and imperial, making it easy for focus pullers on international teams. The ARRI PL mount ensures stable integration with cinema cameras and rigs, and the 77mm front thread allows the use of filters without the need for bulky accessories.
Despite its wide range and cinema orientation, the lens is relatively compact, with a front diameter of about 80 mm, a length of approximately 47.5 mm, and a weight of about 458 g. This makes it suitable for use on gimbals, stabilizers, and mobile cinema configurations, without compromising on optical quality.
