New sensor and powerful processor

The new 32.5MP sensor delivers 34% more resolution than the Canon EOS R6 Mark II. Combined with the DIGIC X processor found in the EOS R6 III, this means better detail, lower noise levels, a wider sensitivity range and increased performance.

The processor inherited from the professional Canon EOS R3 model handles both high-speed continuous shooting and 7K video perfectly.

SCN modes

While it's designed to handle a variety of high-end photo and video tasks, the Canon EOS R6 III offers a serious convenience for content creators who prefer automatic settings. Automatic modes are available for various scenes - for both photo and video.

SCN modes for still photography include Portrait, Smooth Skin Portrait, Group Shot, Landscape, Panorama, Sports, Kids, Panning (motion tracking), Close-up, Food, Night Portrait, Handheld Night Scene, HDR Backlight Control, and Silent Shutter. For video, additional modes include Smooth Skin Movie, Close-Up Demos, Movie IS (video stabilization), and HDR settings that eliminate the need for additional processing.

7K video recording

In addition to excellent stills, the Canon EOS R6 Mark III can also be used for serious video work. Using a sensor similar to that in the Canon EOS C50 cinema camera, the model can record 7K video internally at up to 60 frames per second in 12-bit Canon RAW Light Movie. When recording externally — via an external recorder — 7K 30p ProRes RAW video is possible.

The camera also supports Open Gate 3:2 7K 30p in 10-bit MP4 or 12-bit RAW. This mode is particularly useful for social media content creators, as it provides a larger frame area from which to crop when resizing to a vertical 9:16 format, as well as other aspect ratios such as 1:1, 4:3 or 4:5.

One of the biggest improvements over the R6 Mark II is the significantly improved performance in high-speed recording. The camera now supports DCI 4K and UHD 4K at up to 120 frames per second, allowing for 5× slow motion playback. At lower resolutions such as DCI 2K and Full HD, it can record at 180 fps. Audio recording is supported at all resolutions and frame rates, except for S&F (“Slow & Fast”) mode.

The new S&F mode is accessible directly from the command dial and provides control over resolution, frame rate, playback speed and compression. For exceptionally clear and detailed images, 4K FINE mode uses oversampling (upsampling from a higher 7K resolution) for higher quality DCI 4K and UHD 4K recording in XF AVC S format.

LUT profiles and color control

For greater control over the look directly in-camera, the R6 Mark III offers flexible tools for color adjustments and style:

• The Canon Log 2 profile expands the dynamic range and provides over 15 stops, giving more options for color correction.
• Look-Up Tables (LUTs) can be used directly in-camera using the Apply Look function. .cube LUT files (17-grid and 33-grid) are supported and can be registered as Custom Picture Profiles and applied during shooting. LUT files can also be transferred via the Canon Camera Connect app.
• 14 color filters allow you to easily apply color and tonal adjustments directly to JPEG photos or MP4 videos.
• The new Custom Picture menu provides quick access to Canon Log 2, Canon Log 3, HLG, PQ, Canon 709, BT.709, Color Filters and other custom settings.

Additional video features

The Magnify button allows you to enlarge the image to check focus without interrupting the video.
The Pre-Recording feature starts recording up to 5 seconds before you press the record button, so you don't miss an unexpected moment.
Auto Level works in conjunction with in-body stabilization to keep the scene's horizon level.
Focus breathing compensation can be activated with supported lenses, reducing optical distortion when changing focus.

Autofocus and tracking

Updated with technology borrowed from the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II cameras, the R6 III's Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system offers extremely fast, precise and reliable autofocus, suitable for both stills and video.

The EOS R6 Mark III’s autofocus uses Intelligent Subject Detection, which can identify people, animals and vehicles. Once a subject is detected, the autofocus locks onto it and tracks it smoothly even when it is moving. For the first time in an EOS R6 series camera, Canon is introducing the Register People Priority function – it allows you to register up to 10 different faces as priority subjects, so that the system automatically prioritizes them over other people in the frame. This is especially useful when shooting at events with many people.

Four new AF area modes have been added, as well as options to disable subject tracking and recognition when necessary. The Canon R6 Mark III also allows you to save and recall different autofocus settings. It is also possible to set the focus position - a function similar to the focus recall buttons on Canon's super telephoto lenses.

For video, the Movie Servo AF algorithm is borrowed from the Canon C400 and C80 cinema cameras, resulting in more natural focus transitions, closer to the smooth movement of manual focusing.

Uncompromising stabilization

The updated In-Bridge Image Stabilizer (IBIS) now compensates up to 8.5 stops in the center of the frame and up to 7.5 stops at the edges. This provides sharper photos when shooting handheld and steadier video in low light or when moving. The system is especially useful when using lenses without their own stabilization, but can also work together with the stabilization of compatible lenses. In the so-called coordinated stabilization (Coordinated IS), the work of the sensor and the lens is combined to compensate for vibrations as effectively as possible.

Additionally, when shooting video, Movie Digital IS uses optical, sensor and digital stabilization simultaneously to ensure smoother, more stable images, even when the operator is moving.

Reliability and flexibility

Reliable and intuitive operation

The Canon EOS R6 Mark III is designed with professional use and intensive workloads in mind. The camera has two memory card slots – CFexpress Type B and SD UHS-II (V90). The body is made of magnesium alloy and has a sealed construction, resistant to dust and moisture, making it a reliable choice even in difficult outdoor conditions. The shutter mechanism is tested for 500,000 cycles, and the new Multi-Function Shoe for accessories supports smart accessories such as external microphones and flashes, providing them with power directly from the camera. The Canon R6 III works with the updated LP-E6P battery, providing up to 620 shots on a single charge, and supports an optional BG-R20 grip for greater capacity and more comfortable operation when shooting vertically.

Flexible connectivity

The camera offers full connectivity for transfer, control and streaming. A USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port allows for charging and fast file transfer, as well as using the camera as a Full HD webcam (30 fps) thanks to support for UVC/UAC protocols. There are also 3.5mm jacks for headphones and an external microphone, as well as an HDMI output for working with an external recorder. Wireless capabilities include Wi-Fi (5 GHz and 2.4 GHz) and Bluetooth, which allow remote control and transfer via the Canon Camera Connect app. Professionals can use the FTP function to send files directly to a computer or server, as well as the Canon Content Transfer Professional app to enter metadata and sort images. In addition, for more convenient operation, the R6 Mark III can save and load network settings inherited from the R5 Mark II model.
