There's an aperture lock button (a first for a Sony prime lens), two focus lock buttons (with other assignable functions), a manual and auto focus switch, and Linear Response MF for reliable manual focusing. Autofocus XD motors provide extremely fast focusing (1.9 faster than that of the Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 Planar T* ZA).
