Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f / 2 is a universal lens with a fixed focal length in a compact body type "pancake" weighing only 170 grams and measuring 70 x 45.5 mm.
The model offers a universal viewing angle and, when used with cameras with APS-C sensor, becomes a suitable portrait lens. The nine rounded elements of the aperture provide a pleasant and soft defocus, and the relatively wide maximum aperture - good control over the depth of focus and unobstructed operation in low light conditions.
The optical circuit of Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f / 2 provides excellent control of aberrations even in the periphery, despite the compact size.
The autofocus engine is fast and quiet, and "breathing" when focusing is minimal, which is an advantage when shooting video. The minimum focusing distance is only 29 cm, which allows for interesting close-ups.
The housing control ring has selectable functions for maximum convenience - focus, aperture, exposure compensation or light sensitivity adjustment.
