Description
With the Leica M10 Monochrom the difference is in black and white. The Leica M10 Monochrom is a specialized digital telemetry camera configured with a unique 40MP 35mm monochrome CMOS sensor that is used for the sole purpose of capturing exceptional black and white images. Unlike the standard CMOS sensor, this specialized monochrome sensor has no color filter to allow only light values to be recorded for greater depth and clarity of photos, along with improved sensitivity up to ISO 100,000 and reduced levels of noise. The sensor also lacks an optical low pass filter, which adds to the sharpness of the images.
As with other M10 cameras, the M10 Monochrom body design is reminiscent of Leica M film cameras, and the larger 0.73x zoom optical viewfinder allows for more composite and focusing. The Leica M10 Monochrom is equipped with a dedicated ISO display to quickly adjust the setting even when the camera is off, and the rear 3-inch 1.04-megapixel touchscreen features Gorilla Glass to prevent scratches and shocks. The upper and lower body panels are made of brass and the chassis is made of magnesium alloy.
The Leica M10 Monochrom also has an integrated Wi-Fi module for wireless camera sharing and remote control from a connected mobile device through the Leica FOTOS app.

Monochrome
The Leica M10 Monochrom is a different camera. It is the third generation model of Leica's innovative series of digital telemetry cameras. It inherits the distinctive design elements of this system and adds a 40-megapixel monochrome sensor designed solely to record black-and-white photographs.
40MP black and white CMOS sensor and Maestro II processor
The full-frame monochrome 40.89-megapixel CMOS sensor is combined with the Maestro II image processor to provide a wide dynamic range with remarkable tonal transitions, as well as improved sensitivity to suit performance in a variety of lighting conditions. The sensor is without an optical low-pass filter to achieve greater sharpness and resolution. Unlike typical sensor designs, the Monochrom sensor is colorless, thus offering the ability to record monochrome images using only brightness values for increased clarity, depth and resolution. By removing the color filters, this camera also achieves a greater sensitivity range of ISO 160-100000 compared to the M10 color cameras, along with reduced noise for operation in adverse lighting conditions.
Optical telemetry viewfinder
The optical viewfinder is a large, bright telemetry viewfinder with 0.73x magnification, with automatic parallax compensation and a frame with bright lines that matches the size of the sensor at a subject distance of 2 m. The camera has a selector that can be changed manually the visible image field to help visualize the scene with different focal lengths; options are available in pairs with a focal length of 35mm / 135mm, 28mm / 90mm and 50mm / 75mm.
