Blue Spectrum Refractive optics
Canon has developed Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) optics to deal with the decomposition of light across object boundaries in large diameter lenses. This unique organic optical material is more effective at correcting this side effect than other technologies such as fluorite, UD glass (ultra-low dispersion) or Super UD glass. The decomposition of light along the boundaries of objects is caused by chromatic aberration, a phenomenon in which light of different colors focuses at different points. The use of the BR optical material at EF 35mm f / 1.4L II USM minimizes this effect. The other lens elements can then be optimized to provide excellent sharpness, contrast and glare resistance.
