Optical image stabilizer
To help you shoot blurry, the EF-S 55-250mm f / 4-5.6 IS STM incorporates Canon image stabilization technology. It allows shutter speeds of up to 3.5 steps lower than normal while preventing blur caused by camera shake - ideally in low light or when shooting at high magnification. Panorama recognition automatically switches off the horizontal or vertical stabilization, which helps to convey a sense of speed when photographing moving subjects.
STM technology
The EF-S 55-250mm f / 4-5,6 IS STM uses STM technology for smooth, quiet continuous focus when recording video with EOS and fast, accurate AF when capturing images. STM focus is so quiet that it does not capture the camera's microphone and does not interfere with the recorded sound.
