Description
The Audio-Technica AT831CW is a compact condenser lavalier microphone designed for discreet voice recording and speech. Thanks to its small size and weight of only 2.8 grams, the microphone can be attached to clothing with the included clip without creating unnecessary inconvenience for the speaker. Its cardioid polar pattern allows for sound capture in front of the microphone, while reducing sensitivity to sounds coming from the sides and rear. This makes it suitable for interviews, presentations, stage performances and other situations where discreet placement of the microphone close to the speaker is required.
The microphone uses a condenser element and operates in a frequency range of 40 to 16,000 Hz. Its sensitivity is -42 dB, or 7.9 mV at reference conditions of 1 V at 1 Pa. The maximum input sound level reaches 141 dB SPL at 1 kHz and 1% total harmonic distortion, and the signal-to-noise ratio is 65 dB at 1 kHz and 1 Pa. These characteristics make it suitable for recording speech and other sound sources within the specified operating parameters.
In wired configuration, the AT831CW features a low-pass filter that operates at 80 Hz with an attenuation of 18 dB per octave. This feature allows you to limit the low-frequency components of the signal when necessary in a particular recording situation. The microphone also features a three-position switch: off, on with a flat frequency response, and on with the low-pass filter activated. Thus, in wired operation, the user can choose between standard operation mode and low-frequency attenuation mode.
The cable configuration includes a power module with an integrated 3-pin XLRM output. The module requires a DC voltage of 11 to 52 V and has a typical consumption of 2 mA. It weighs 81 grams and measures 92.9 mm in length and 18.9 mm in diameter. In this configuration, the microphone has a dynamic range of 112 dB at 1 kHz and a maximum SPL. The microphone itself is 25 mm long and 10.2 mm in diameter, allowing for compact placement on clothing. The kit includes an AT8419 clothing clip, AT8444 instrument microphone adapter, AT8538 remote power supply module, AT8116 windscreen and protective case. The AT831CW offers a compact solution for recording speech with a cardioid polar pattern and the ability to select a low-pass filter for wired operation.
