Description
The Audio-Technica AT4050 is a professional large-diaphragm condenser microphone designed for recording vocals, musical instruments, drums and amplifiers. With three switchable polar patterns – cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-of-eight – the microphone offers flexibility for a variety of studio applications and recording techniques. It can be used for solo vocals, acoustic instruments, ensembles and situations where spatial control of sound is required.
The microphone features a 2-micron diaphragm with a gold-evaporated layer, which is designed for precise audio signal reproduction. The frequency range of 20 Hz to 18 kHz allows for the capture of a wide range of sound characteristics - from the low frequencies of bass instruments to the details in the high register. The sound performance is tuned for airy high and mid frequencies, combined with dense low frequencies, making it suitable for a variety of sound sources.
The AT4050 uses a transformerless solid-state circuit that supports high-level operation and provides a wide dynamic range. The maximum sound pressure level reaches 149 dB SPL at 1 kHz and 1% THD, and with the -10 dB pad engaged, this increases to 159 dB SPL. This allows recording of loud sources such as drums and guitar amps with reduced risk of distortion. The switchable pad is useful when working with close-in or particularly loud sound sources.
The microphone also features a low-pass filter that reduces unwanted bass buildup. The filter has a frequency of 80 Hz and a slope of 12 dB per octave, which can help reduce low-frequency interference, vibrations, and proximity effects in vocal recordings. The three polar patterns allow you to select the appropriate mode according to the source and room acoustics.
The Audio-Technica AT4050 uses a standard three-pin XLR output for connection and requires 48V phantom power from a microphone preamp, mixer or audio interface. An anti-vibration mount, protective carrying case and dust cover are included. The mount reduces the transmission of mechanical vibrations to the microphone, which is especially useful in studio recordings. With its design, switchable modes and ability to handle high sound levels, the AT4050 is a versatile solution for professional recording applications.
