Description
The audio interface Universal Audio Apollo TwinX Duo USB HE is a USB audio interface designed for recording, monitoring and processing audio in a studio environment. The model has 2 analog inputs and 4 analog outputs at a sampling rate of up to 192 kHz, combining analog connections with a digital TOSLINK input for ADAT/S/PDIF. The built-in DSP provides the ability to process the audio signal directly through the interface hardware. 24-bit audio and a maximum sampling rate of 192 kHz are supported, which allows for high-definition recording and playback. A 5-segment multi-segment LED indicator is located on the case, which provides visual information about the levels.
Flexible analog inputs and outputs
The interface offers two combined XLR/TRS inputs for microphone and line signals, as well as a 1/4" TS Hi-Z input located on the front panel and designed for connecting suitable instruments. The output section includes two 1/4" TRS Line outputs, two 1/4" TRS Monitor outputs, and a separate 1/4" TRS Headphone output. This configuration allows for simultaneous connection of various audio sources, studio monitors, and headphones.
Precise input signal control
The Mic, Line and Hi-Z inputs offer a gain range of +10 dB to +65 dB. For louder signals, there is a switchable -20 dB Pad for each channel, and the high-pass filter has a frequency of 75 Hz. The interface also features 48 V phantom power, which can be switched on or off individually for each input. These capabilities provide the necessary control when working with different types of sources and microphones.
ADAT and S/PDIF for digital expansion
The TOSLINK optical input supports ADAT and S/PDIF, with the number of available ADAT channels depending on the sample rate used. At 44.1 and 48 kHz, 8 inputs are available, at 88.2 and 96 kHz – 4 inputs, and at 176.4 and 192 kHz – 2 inputs. S/PDIF supports 2 inputs at 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz. Synchronization can be done via ADAT, Internal or S/PDIF.
High fidelity audio reproduction
The Apollo Twin X DUO USB HE offers a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz ±0.05 dB on the Mic, Line and Hi-Z inputs, as well as on the Line outputs. The Headphone and Monitor outputs have a response of 20 Hz–20 kHz ±0.1 dB. The maximum input level reaches 25.6 dBu on the Mic inputs with the Pad activated, 20.2 dBu on the Line inputs and 12.2 dBu on the Hi-Z input. The maximum output level on the Line and Monitor outputs is 20.2 dBu.
Low noise and high dynamic range
The audio interface offers a dynamic range of up to 127 dBA at the Monitor outputs and 126 dBA at the Line outputs. The Microphone inputs reach 123 dBA, while the Headphone output offers 124 dBA. The maximum power of the Headphone output is 96 mW at 300 Ω. THD+N values are also optimized for precise operation, reaching -115 dB at the Microphone inputs, -114 dB at the Line inputs and -117 dB at the Line and Monitor outputs.
USB-C connectivity and low latency
The connection to a computer is via USB-C with USB 3.1/3.2 Gen 2 protocol. The interface supports sampling rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz and 24-bit AD/DA conversion without Sample Rate Conversion. At 96 kHz, the input-output latency is 1.1 ms, which provides fast response when recording and monitoring. Synchronization can use ADAT, Internal or S/PDIF as a source.
Compact design and power supply
Measuring 16.03 x 15.7 x 6.6 cm and weighing 1 kg without accessories, the Apollo Twin X DUO USB HE can be integrated into compact studio systems. Power is supplied via the included AC/DC adapter with an input of 100–240 VAC at 50/60 Hz and an output of 12 VDC, and the maximum consumption is 15 W. The operating temperature range is from 0 to 40°C.
