The 20-50mm focal range covers both ultra-wide-angle shots for landscapes, architecture and interiors, and more standard focal lengths for interviews, reportage work and everyday video shooting. The constant F4 maximum aperture allows for consistent exposure during zoom movement, which is especially important for professional video work.

One of the most significant features of the RF 20-50mm F/4L IS USM PZ is the motorized zoom mechanism, powered by two dedicated Nano USM motors. It provides smooth, even and controlled zoom movement, suitable for cinematic shots, smooth transitions and video work. The lens allows both motorized control and standard manual zoom control via separate positions of the zoom ring. A locking mechanism prevents unwanted movement during transport.

The internal zoom mechanism is especially important when working with stabilizers, as the physical length of the lens does not change during focal length changes. This maintains a constant balance on stabilizer systems and facilitates work during dynamic shooting.

The optical construction includes 13 elements in 11 groups, including three UD elements and two aspherical elements for better control of chromatic aberrations, distortions and loss of detail. Super Spectra Coating and Air Sphere Coating reduce flare and ghosting when shooting against strong light sources, and a Fluorine coating on the front element makes cleaning easier.

Built-in optical image stabilization provides up to 6 stops of compensation on its own, and up to 8 stops when combined with the stabilization of compatible Canon cameras. This enables steadier handheld video and sharper images in low light.

The Nano USM autofocus system offers fast, quiet and smooth focusing for both stills and video. The lens supports full-time manual focus and features a programmable focus ring for quick access to various settings.
