The new sensor and DIGIC X processor

The camera supports internal 12-bit Canon RAW recording at 7K resolution in both Standard RAW and Light RAW modes, which provides significantly greater flexibility in color grading, exposure corrections and post-processing.

The Open Gate 3:2 mode uses almost the entire area of the full-frame sensor and allows recording at 6912 × 4608 resolution. This provides a significant advantage when creating content for various platforms and formats, as the operator can crop the frame for 16:9, vertical 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or cinematic widescreen formats without significant loss of resolution. The Open Gate process is particularly useful for commercial productions, documentary shooting and content creation.

When used with an external recorder, the camera supports 7K ProRes RAW output via full-size HDMI to compatible devices such as the Atomos Ninja series. This allows integration into more professional cinema production with external monitoring and recording configurations.

Oversampled 4K and slow motion

For maximum quality in 4K recording, the camera uses 7K resolution oversampling in DCI 4K Fine and UHD 4K Fine modes. This provides higher detail, lower noise, and a cleaner image compared to standard line-skipping or pixel binning processes.

The Canon EOS R6 V supports DCI 4K and UHD 4K recording at up to 120fps, allowing for high-quality slow motion recording with smooth movement and good detail. At lower resolutions such as DCI 2K and Full HD, the camera reaches up to 180fps for an even more extreme slow motion effect.

The new S&F (Slow & Fast) mode provides direct control over frame rate, compression and playback speed, without the need for additional post-production processing. The camera allows recording from 1 to 180fps, making it suitable for both cinematic slow motion and timelapse and time-lapse footage.

An additional advantage is the Pre-recording function, which records 3 or 5 seconds before the REC button is actually pressed.

Canon Log profiles and color control

The EOS R6 V offers advanced color correction tools and a professional workflow through Canon Log 2, Canon Log 3, PQ and HLG profiles. The camera supports loading LUT tables and customized Custom Picture Profiles, making it easy to create a specific look while shooting.

Autofocus and tracking
