Description
Professional USB Audio Interface for Studio and Mobile Recording The MOTU M6 is a USB audio interface designed for musicians, producers, recording professionals, podcasters, and audiovisual content creators. It offers six analog inputs and four analog outputs, with four of the inputs being combination XLR/TRS connectors for microphone, line, and instrument signals. This configuration allows for simultaneous connection of multiple sound sources when recording vocals, instruments, interviews, and musical performances. The interface connects to a computer via USB-C and supports audio with resolutions up to 24-bit and sampling rates up to 192 kHz.
Four microphone inputs with phantom power
The MOTU M6 features four combo XLR/TRS inputs that accept mic, line, and Hi-Z instrument signals. This allows you to directly connect microphones, line sources, and compatible instruments without the need for additional external preamps. Each of the four inputs has individual gain controls, and the gain range is up to +60 dB for mic inputs and +57 dB for line and Hi-Z inputs. 48V phantom power is supported with on/off switchable capability for individual inputs, allowing the use of compatible condenser microphones.
Additional line inputs and flexible routing
In addition to the four combined inputs, the interface offers two separate balanced line inputs with 1/4" TRS connectors. They are suitable for connecting external preamps, synthesizers and other devices with a line level signal. The total number of analog inputs is six, which provides more options for recording different sources simultaneously. This configuration is useful when recording small musical ensembles, several microphones or a combination of vocals and instruments. The four balanced line outputs allow connection to studio monitors and other compatible equipment.
High audio resolution and low noise levels
The MOTU M6 supports recording and playback at resolutions up to 24-bit and sampling rates up to 192 kHz. According to the technical specifications, the dynamic range reaches 115 dBA for microphone inputs, 114 dBA for line inputs, and 120 dBA for line and monitor outputs. The equivalent input noise of the microphone preamps is -129 dBu A-weighted at maximum gain and a source impedance of 150 Ω. These parameters are important when recording quiet sources and when working in which detailed signal reproduction is sought. The actual result also depends on the microphones, connected equipment, and the acoustic environment.
Direct monitoring and two headphone outputs
The interface offers direct monitoring of the input signal, allowing you to listen while recording without additional delay from the computer software. This is especially useful when recording vocals, instruments and podcasts, when the performer needs to hear their signal in real time. The two headphone outputs are equipped with 1/4" TRS connectors and allow you to connect two headphones. The maximum output level of the headphone outputs is +12.5 dBu, and the specified dynamic range reaches 115 dBA. When working through software, latency depends on the buffer settings, sampling rate and computer configuration.
Color LCD display and USB-C connectivity
The color LCD display provides visual information about the interface's operation and makes it easy to monitor levels during recording. Connection to a computer is via a USB-C interface using the USB 2.0 protocol. This allows integration into compatible computers without the need for a separate digital audio interface. The device does not have built-in digital audio connectivity, wireless connectivity, or a built-in DSP processor according to the specifications provided. Power is provided via the included AC/DC adapter.
MIDI connectivity and studio integration
The MOTU M6 includes a five-pin MIDI input and five-pin MIDI output, allowing you to connect compatible MIDI keyboards, controllers, and other devices. This feature is useful in music production when audio recording is combined with control of virtual instruments or external MIDI equipment. Four line outputs and two headphone outputs complete the studio capabilities, and separate inputs make it easy to connect multiple sources simultaneously. The housing measures 233.9 × 120.6 × 46 mm and weighs approximately 1 kg, making it suitable for both stationary studio use and for transportation between different work sites.
