The Laowa 15mm f/4.5 0.5x Wide Angle Macro Auto Aperture lens is a wide-angle macro lens for Full Frame mirrorless cameras, designed for photographers seeking an unconventional perspective and a strong sense of depth. With a focal length of 15mm and a viewing angle of 110.5°, the lens allows for wide-angle scenes while also providing a macro range rarely found in a single lens.
Its main distinguishing feature is the ability to zoom in up to 0.5x (1:2), which allows for capturing details from extremely close distances. The minimum focusing distance is only 36mm from the front lens, which creates a strong perspective and allows the subject to dominate the frame, while the environment remains visible and an active part of the composition. This makes the lens particularly suitable for creative macro photography, products, food, plants and artistic details with context.
The maximum aperture of f/4.5, stop-down to f/32, provides flexible control over depth of field from sharp subject isolation in close-ups to great depth of field in landscapes and architectural scenes. The 5-blade diaphragm is optimized for a compact design and stable performance in a variety of lighting conditions.
The lens features an automatic diaphragm, allowing aperture control directly from the camera and facilitating work in dynamic situations. Focusing is fully manual, providing precise control for macro shots and allowing fine-tuning of the focus point when working at very close distances.
The optical design includes 16 elements in 11 groups, designed for good detail and control of distortion typical of wide-angle lenses. The result is images with central sharpness, contrast and natural shape reproduction, both in macro shots and wider scenes.
Designed for full-frame coverage and compatible with the Sony E mount, the lens' compact dimensions of 70mm diameter and 47.7mm length, as well as a weight of approximately 308g, make it convenient for handheld use, travel and long shooting sessions. Support for 62mm diameter front filters adds additional flexibility when working outdoors.
