The OM SYSTEM OM-5 Mark II mirrorless camera is an evolution of the original model, offering professionals and amateurs some practical improvements for more convenient and high-quality photography and video shooting.
The new model retains the popular compact body with stylish design and excellent craftsmanship, while adding several improvements that make shooting more intuitive and convenient – especially for traveling photographers and video creators.
The same foundation, but with improvements
In appearance, the OM SYSTEM (Olympus) OM-5 Mark II strongly resembles the original and does not offer any radical changes. The new developments are focused on small but practical improvements. The body remains lightweight, robust and with IP53 protection - a perfect choice for travel, street photography and nature shots.
One of the most significant new features is support for a USB-C connection, replacing the outdated USB-B port. This means faster charging and more reliable data transfer, as well as compatibility with modern accessories and external batteries - extremely useful for photographers on the go.
More intuitive interface and direct access to key features
One of the most notable changes is the new menu system and user interface, borrowed from the flagship OM-1 Mark II. The menus are cleaner, more logical and more accessible, especially for novice photographers and videographers.
In addition, the OM-5 II features a better grip and a dedicated button for special Computational Photography modes on the top panel. It provides instant access to features such as Live ND, focus stacking, HDR, multiple exposure and high-resolution shooting that previously required time-consuming menu navigation.
New night and handheld photography modes
The OM SYSTEM OM-5 II also introduces two completely new features that help when shooting in challenging conditions:
- Night Vision Mode – corrects shadows and helps with framing in low light, useful for astrophotography and night landscapes.
- Hand-Held Assist – a visual indicator that shows when the camera is steady enough for a hand-held shot.
Video enhancements
While the OM-5 Mark II isn’t aimed directly at professional videographers, it does get two new profiles – OM Cinema 1 and Cinema 2 – that offer a cinematic look straight out of the camera, making it easier for video creators who want great results without any additional post-processing.
The OM SYSTEM OM-5 Mark II doesn’t fundamentally change the concept of the original, but it improves key aspects of the user experience. With more modern USB-C connectivity, a new user interface, better access to features, and new low-light and handheld modes, it’s an excellent choice for travel photographers, nature enthusiasts, and content creators.
