Cutting macro shots
Most Canon lenses have Image Stabilizer (IS), which compensates for camera shake when shooting without a tripod, and this lens features a revolutionary hybrid image stabilization system to counteract normal angular rotation and lateral displacement - more pronounced when shooting very close.

Shift and sway
The sideways shake-up occurs when the camera's sensor is parallel to the scene - much more pronounced in the close-up. Macrophotography usually requires a stable tripod, but the new hybrid image stabilizer compensates for camera shake (angular and vertical plane). This gives you more flexibility to prevent blurring of the image due to camera shake and to track your subject if it moves or changes its position, which guarantees sharp images when shooting macro objects.
